NEW products customised for specific locations
Having run our art gallery (The Purdie Gallery in Rye) for 18 years, we know that a significant proportion of our sales come from a quite small number of images and products, all produced by David Purdie.
For instance, for many years, a single image of Mermaid Street, without doubt the iconic picture of the town, has sold each year, on average; 100 posters rolled in tubes @ £25 each, 50 framed versions @ £70 each. We also sell around 1000 £2.50 greetings cards per year of the same view. This represents an annual turnover with just this single image of £8,500.
This is in a single, small gallery in a small town, with lots of visitors but a population of only 9,000.
Many shops and galleries have a small selection of localised material. But the kind of really well-made, well-photographed, well-produced products that we have sold repeatedly in Rye are missing from many towns.
We are now planning to provide bespoke high-quality imagery and products for different locations.
We can produce localised products that are usually superior to what is currently available. Knowing what sells already in our gallery gives us a unique insight into current tastes, backed by actual sales.
Using David's photography and post-production experience, we have produced a small range of products targeted to sell to visitors and locals alike. The aim is to produce the highest quality imagery and products which people will find irresistible and that in some way will seem to define the town. Given the turnover of visitors (in the right kind of locations), it is likely that they will sell consistently and regularly, as we have found over many years in Rye.
We have just started supplying prints of Winchelsea and Tenterden to shops in those towns, where they are selling well.
Tenterden is already doing notably well where they have been averaging 3 sales of £45-£135 items per week with David's prints having become their best sellers. This is during a otherwise very quiet period, since first stocking our products in early Feb 2025.

Stylised graphical prints in a popular style, somewhat reminiscent of 1920/30s art deco travel posters

Again, the type of product you sometimes see in tourist shops but not often done well. These are a consistent style and quality, using doors from the town centre.
conventional photos (where appropriate location exists)
Where there is an iconic view we will be aiming to produce an image that is superior to existing ones as I did in Rye with the various scenes below.
