Friday 24 September 2021 Black and White day/evening
BLACK AND WHITE DAY
This is a chance to master your black and white photography
2021 covid stuff - We will meet at the first location and you need to be in your own transport for the day.
Friday 24 September 2021 12pm to 8pm
Concentrating on black and white for the day, you can spend the day on and around the local beaches near Rye, shooting the dunes and beautiful wide open beach. Towards the end of the day if we are lucky we might also combine some colour shooting for the sunset over the cliffs at Fairlight. David will guide you through the best way to set up your camera for black and white, choice of lenses for different types of pictures, and how to use the dunes for dramatic and striking compositions. He will also cover the use of filters to darken blue skies, and how to compose specifically for black and white. David will show you how to focus the camera to get very close details in focus in wider shots, as well as talking about about how focus stacking may be helpful for this. This is a chance to get to grips with shooting black and white, thinking about composition, tones and textures (instead of colour) to get bold, graphic pictures.
Wide angle lenses are very useful for these kind of shots in the dunes. For most mirrorless or cropped frame cameras this means lenses from about 14mm and less. For full frame cameras about 24mm and less. If you are in any doubt about this contact the gallery for advice.
A few days after the workshop day David will record a 30 minute processing tutorial back at his studio, using his shots from the day and send the tutorial as a screen recording for you to watch at your own pace. This will cover processing the 10 or so main shots from the day and he will also talk about how best to make the conversion from colour to black and white, and how this conversion gives you lots of options for how your final pictures can look.
Workshop maximum of 6 people cost £140 per person includes tea/coffee with snacks and lunch.
